A Comprehensive overview of the Kakatiya Medical College (K.M.C) Library, established in 1959, detailing its facilities, Budget, User demographics, Services offered, Collection and staffing. The K.M.C Library serves as avital resource for students and faculty, supporting their academic and research needs through a variety of Services and extensive collections.
KMC Library Working Hours 9.00 AM to 9.00 PM (Two Shifts) in Government working days. Students UG, PG, Super Specialty and Teaching staff when entered into the Library they should enter their details in the Library entry register maintained by the library as follows:

Central Library
The K.M.C. Library has been an integral part of the college since its inception in 1959. It operates from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. in two shifts on all working days. The library is housed in a dedicated building that spans 1200 square meters, featuring three large halls and smaller rooms, including an air-conditioned reading room.
Budget
The primary source of funding for the K.M.C. Library comes from the Director of Medical Education, Telangana, Hyderabad. The Director has allocated a budget under Head of A/C 160 for publications to fulfill the library's needs.
Users
The K.M.C. Library caters to approximately 1000 undergraduate students from the first year to the final year, 300 postgraduate students, and 300 teaching staff members.

Services Provided
The K.M.C. Library offers a range of services to its users:
- Reference Service: Separate halls are designated for staff, postgraduates, and undergraduates. Each section is equipped with the latest textbooks, reference books, recent advances, monographs, and annual reviews. The library boasts nearly 1104 reference books in various medical subjects for staff and postgraduate reference, along with 414 recent textbooks for undergraduates. Additionally, the library subscribes to 70 Indian journals and 26 international journals, valued at 22 lakhs annually.
- Lending Service: Undergraduate MBBS students can borrow two books at a time for a period of two weeks, while postgraduate students may borrow two books for one month.
- Facilities for SC/ST Students: The library provides a separate SC/ST Book Bank with support from the Social Welfare Department.

- Collection: The K.M.C. Library houses approximately 37,625 books, including back bound volumes and clinics. The library employs the Dewey Decimal Classification and Dictionary Cataloguing system. It is a member of the NTRMEDNET consortium, granting access to 541 online journals and 998 medical e-books. Furthermore, the library subscribes to 100 print journals (both Indian and Foreign) annually.

Each department within Kakatiya Medical College is equipped with its own departmental library, containing adequate text and reference books for quick access by faculty and postgraduate students.

Indian Journals and Foreign Journals are kept separately in a dedicated room within the library department. Indian Journals and Foreign Journals as per NMC norms, 100 no’s ⅓ of Foreign Journals are available up to 2019 (2019 list enclosed).
On the 1st floor, a separate e-library is available with an NML connection provided by the Government of India. The ERMED Consortium offers access to foreign journals from 5 publishers, which are:

This institution PG students use Foreign Journals for preparation of dissertations. The above 5 publishers were approved by the NMC committee and allotted to NML. The NML connection was only provided to Kakatiya Medical College, Government of Telangana.
NKN established in the year of 2010 and provided Internet connection with 100 Mbps (Megabytes per second) is available in E-library of Library department, the connection is utilized by KMC, UG & PG Girls and boys hostel, Super speciality hospital within the premises of KMC, teaching hospitals i.e., MGM, REH, CKM, GMH, TB Hospitals to till date.
If purchased separately, the system would cost nearly 15 to 20 lakhs per year, as NKN was arranged in the e-library of the Library Department, it is utilized across Warangal district i.e., Private and Government RBI banks, Police Department wireless, Fire service wireless, Ambulance, Kakatiya University NIIT, Railway Department and for UPI and internet transactions, all through the NKN system. As the NKN Internet connection with 100 Mbps (Megabytes per Second) system is maintained in the E-library of Library department, KMC, Hnk, it is provided free of cost to KMC under control of Teaching Hospitals. Due to this connection every year there is a benefit of 15 to 20 lakhs annually for the Government.
2nd Floor consists of 3 Halls, each hall has 100 students seating capacity, central library consists of 550 seating capacity. 1st Floor outside 24 hours reading room is available of 50 students in the library department.
Government of Telangana budget allotted under 160 publications from D.M.E. Telangana, quarterly, half yearly and yearly the allotted budget is utilized to purchase Books, Indian Journals and Foreign Journals. Purchased books (2 sets) were issued to the sectional library of
33 departments, these books are used by the PG students and teaching staff. 1 set of books are used in the UG and PG reference rooms of central library for reference in the library.
Kakatiya Medical college students from MBBS 1st to final year, who are eligible for scholarship, SC students list sent to the deputy director of SC social welfare Office, Warangal, they communicate list of books to KMC, Library, Hanumakonda for SC students, Assistant librarian issues books to the SC students, scholarship holders MBBS 1st year to the final year students.
